Gallery In Space exists as a set of plan drawings from which the gallery can be replicated. The gallery can be presented as both a physical and virtual space. The space, whilst not a perfect white cube, has a main gallery with two smaller spaces. There are some architectural features, (doors/pillars) which impinge and will have to be dealt with by exhibitors. Exhibitors can further subdivide / build temporary walls and structures within the space but must work within the limits of the building. It may be possible to cut through the floor to work beneath the gallery. There are currently no spaces external to the gallery. Exhibitors can select floor and wall appearance. The roof is flat and supports an infinitely flexible lighting system. The space is ideal for blackout / film / audio projections. There are no limitations on time based performance.
Artists and curators will need to construct their version of the gallery space according to the plans. They may construct it at a scale that suits them ranging from 1:1 and smaller, using appropriate materials.
The method of showing work in the space becomes part of the creative process. Artists can use all available methods from re-sizing full scale work, model making, Photoshop/montage, film, digital, virtual reality, audio etc etc.
The Gallery In Space website hosts each exhibition for a designated period. There will be a private view for invited guests before the show is open for public viewing. The gallery can also be physically presented where appropriate within other venues. At the end of the show the exhibition becomes part of the gallery archive.
Curators are encouraged to use the space.
Gallery In Space invites exhibition proposals. Please use the contact form in the first instance to express your interest.
